Travis Lewis A-Twitter

Norman was buzzing with the news on Sunday: Travis Lewis, the most quotable linebacker in college football, had joined Twitter.

Oh, and he said he thought he would play against Florida State on Saturday, too.

What I would've paid to see the look on Bob Stoops' face when heard that.

A day later, Lewis was tweeting a different tune, indicating that he would not be playing against the Seminoles.

Frankly, as much as I'd like to see Lewis out there, him playing extensive time probably would have done more harm than good. Corey Nelson running at 100 percent presents a far better option than Lewis hobbling around all night. You have to think Jimbo Fisher would be going right at the weakside linebacker all night if Lewis was out there. (And he still might.) If anything, given his lack of conditioning, Lewis could have provided the Sooners with a little depth, rotating in for 10 or 15 plays throughout the evening.

Lewis goes sideline to sideline as well as any linebacker in college football, but Nelson is no slouch. The biggest loss will be No. 28's presence in the huddle. A four-year starter, Lewis has been through the fires. Without him, the Sooners will be relying on some relatively inexperienced 'backers in Nelson and Tom Wort to keep their poise in a hostile environment at Doak Campbell Stadium.
