Tallahassee Guide: Get Down With the Seminoles

If you're hitching up your Sooner wagon for the trip to Tallahassee, plan to get there in time for a little fun the night before Saturday's clash of the football titans. Instead of just looking for a good restaurant and a drive through FSU's campus, you're invited to the Getdown Downtown. It's a fan-friendly event from 6 pm to 10pm Friday nights before every Seminole home game, and it's become a not-to-be-missed block party. Think of it as tailgaiting without the intensity.
Loosen up under the spreading oak trees that still grace many downtown streets and enjoy the concerts, food venues, dancing, street entertainers, make up artist, clowns, outdoor grilling, and a chance to get to know Nole fans in a laidback atmosphere.
FSU faithful are warm and welcoming to opposing fans -- unless they cheer for Florida or Miami. So since Oklahoma is not a blood feuding rival, the Southern hospitality should be flowing throughout Tallahassee's downtown streets.
You'll find Florida's capital city is an interesting mix of modern architecture and historic buildings connected by brick streets. It's anchored by the Capitol Complex, including the old historic capitol, the current State Capitol tower, a courtyard garden and various attractions, the Florida Supreme Court. The Old Town Trolley takes visitors around the historic downtown sites on weekdays for free. FSU's campus is just a few blocks away, and the entrance can be seen from the intersection of South Monroe (the main drag) and College Avenue.
