Picks Trying Not to Suck: Week 2
Last week got the 2015 season off to a great start for America's favorite handicapping brothers, with BH and The Skinny combining to go 7-3 against the spread.
Scripts often get flipped in week two, so let's see if these two can keep up the opening weekend's hot start.
On to the picks...
BLATANT HOMERISM--Week 2
(Overall: 4-1)
Temple at Cincinnati (-7)
I had a feeling Penn State was in trouble last week against Temple and I'm kicking myself for not making that one of my picks. This week, the Owls travel to the Queen City in a potential letdown spot after humiliating their in-state rivals.
Unfortunately, they're probably facing a better team this week.
The pick: Lay it.
Marshall at Ohio (+3)
By the time these two mid-majors kick off, one will have had nine days off since its season opener. The other will have had six.
The pick: I'll take the better rested Bobcats.
Massachusetts at Colorado (-12.5)
Mentally, who knows where the Buffaloes' heads are at after those shenanigans out in the islands. (Although, to be fair, that's not much different from the usual state of play in Boulder.)
I'm still buying the Buffs as being an improved squad.
The pick: Field day at Folsom for CU.
San Diego State at California (-14)
First tussle between these two teams since 1996. So nice of the champagne-sipping Golden Bears to allow the Rockstar-chugging Aztecs to grace their field.
OK, so I have no idea if there's actually any other-side-of-the-tracks animosity fueling SDSU here, but I do love the idea of hordes of Aztec fans invading Memorial Stadium and leaving Taco Bell wrappers everywhere.
Unfortunately for my imaginary Affliction-clad army, that chip on their shoulder is worth zero points on the field.
The pick: Cal, 56-27.
Houston (+13) at Louisville
Big letdown spot for the Cardinals with Auburn in the rearview mirror and Clemson on deck. Based on what he showed against Auburn, Cards QB Lamar Jackson still has some work to do offensively.
Go ahead and sprinkle a little something on the moneyline.
The pick: Louisville, 27-24.
THE SKINNY--Week 2
(Overall: 3-2)
Boise State (-2.5) at BYU
Tulsa at New Mexico (-3.5)
Kentucky (+8.5) at South Carolina
Minnesota at Colorado State (+6.5)
Notre Dame (-12.5) at Virginia
