Linking Up: Sooners to watch in spring practice

Odds and ends from surfing the net. (Do people still say that?)

*I wrote for Athlon about some of the key players to watch for Oklahoma in spring practice. Not surprisingly, most are on the defensive side of the ball.

Of course, the public can't actually watch spring ball at OU, but hopefully you get my drift.

*TCU is already kicking off spring ball. I previewed some of the top stories surrounding the Horned Frogs for Athlon. After diving into this team, I'm expecting this team to take a step back in 2018.

*One thing I don't get when this comes up about prospects like Lamar Jackson: It's fine if you don't think he can play quarterback at the NFL level, but what did he do in college to make anyone think he can be a pro receiver?

Ever seen Jackson run a route? Catch a ball?

*I'm sure you want to read another article on millennials about as much as you want to fill out your tax returns, but I thought this article in the Atlantic about their interest in astrology was somewhat interesting.

*Just finished up Altered Carbon on Netflix, which has to own the record for most gratuitous nudity in a television series. I like Joel Kinnaman, so I stuck with the show through the whole season despite being only mildly interested in the story. The action sequences were strong, although there were so many that their impact wore off after a while. Dialogue was stank.

I'd give it a C/C-.

*I didn't love Annihilation, but it definitely grabs your attention. The movie definitely leaves things open to interpretation in a way that will appeal to the art house sci-fi nerds.

Personally, I lean to the "cancer" reading of the film.

*Last movie/TV bit: Wind River was one of the more underrated flicks of 2017. You can catch it on Netflix now.

*I'd go with Kansas' Devonte' Graham as Big 12's MVP in hoops this season – would have backed Texas Tech's Keenan Evans prior to his toe injury late in the season.

My all-conference team:

  • Devonte' Graham, Kansas
  • Keenan Evans, Texas Tech
  • Trae Young, Oklahoma
  • Jevon Carter, West Virginia
  • Mo Bamba, Texas

I know - not many surprises. I was tempted to take Lindell Wigginton of Iowa State and keep it at all guards, but Bamba really didn't make a huge impact for Texas on the defensive end this year.
