Picks Trying Not to Suck: Week 7
BH and The Skinny got back above the Mendoza line last week, but the overall numbers for the season still look pretty rough. What kind of futility does this week have in store?
Let’s take a look at this week’s picks.
BLATANT HOMERISM--Week 7
(Last week: 3-1-1; Overall: 12-16-2)
Baylor (+14) at Texas
I previewed this game this week for Athlon. This sets up as a tough spot for Texas coming off an emotional win. In light of Baylor’s offensive weapons and Matt Rhule’s insistence on playing to the final gun, keep an eye on the back door.
The pick: Longhorns by six.
West Virginia at Iowa State (+6.5)
The Cyclones seem to have found something with their new quarterback. WVU has been dragging lately.
The pick: WVU by less than a TD, if at all.
Wisconsin at Michigan (-9.5)
I liked this a lot more when it was closer to a touchdown, natch. I think the line is saying something about a Wisconsin team that came into the year significantly overrated.
The pick: Wolverines by two touchdowns.
Georgia at LSU (+7.5)
UGA seems to have shaken off some lethargy last week, which concerns me about this pick. I just don’t buy that the Bulldogs are more than a TD better than the Bayou Bengals at Tiger Stadium.
The pick: Take the points.
Ole Miss at Arkansas (+7)
Looking back at last week’s box scores, the Rebels scored a win that wasn’t quite as dominant as it looked. Meanwhile, the Razorbacks played better versus Alabama than the score would indicate.
The pick: Hogs outright.
THE SKINNY--Week 7
(Last week: 3-2; Overall: 14-16)
Wisconsin (+9.5) at Michigan
Georgia at LSU (+7.5)
Miami at Virginia (+6.5)
Washington at Oregon (+3.5)
Tennessee at Auburn (-14.5)
