Sooners Recruiting Update: 2019 offensive prospects

We previously looked at the players who have already committed to the Sooners in the 2019 class. Now, we'll break down targets by position, starting on O.

Oklahoma's top offensive prospects for 2019

Quarterback

With Spencer Rattler on board, OU is done here. Onto 2020 and Bryce Young? Baker Mayfield’s going to help OU's QB recruiting for years to come.

Running Back

OU may be done with just Isaiah Spiller, but I guess the Sooners continue to kick the tires with one guy.

Noah Cain – 5-11, 200, 4.5

Four stars. Rivals100. Cain is an elite RB from Texas who took moved to IMG Academy last year. OU appeared to be good shape with two visits last fall, but Texas is pitching an easier RB room to compete against. LSU seems to be a hometown favorite for Cain, who grew up in Louisiana.

Wide Receiver

Three spots remain at receiver. This is an absured list of talented recruits. OU receivers' recent success in the NFL is really helping here, as well as the fact CeeDee Lamb and Hollywood Brown are likely NFL players.

Theo Wease – 6-3, 190, 4.55

Five stars. Wease already committed to OU once before, and he seems to be leaning to OU once again. Sooners have huge connections with his high school program in Texas, Allen, and Wease visited Norman numerous times.

Arjei Henderson –  6-1, 185, 4.4

Five stars. Another Texan who previously gave a verbal commitment to OU. More of a slot player/speed receiver. He might wait until later to decide, in which OU may not have a spot left for him.

Jadon Haseldon – 6-3, 185, 4.4

Five stars. Atlanta resident generally regarded as the number one WR in the country. The Georgia verbal commitment has huge connections back to OU. His dad is a massive OU fan/alum and he has lots of family back in Oklahoma.

Jordan Whittington – 6-2, 195, 4.45

Four stars, Rivals top 50. An elite athlete from Texas who wants to play WR, but he could also be an elite safety. OU is right there in his top three or four. He wants to make an early call, and will probably be in Norman some time for a junior day this spring.

Jalen Curry – 6-4, 195, 4.5

Four stars, Rivals top 50. Curry decommitted from Florida State and seems very high on OU. He would be the kind of elite big WR that OU maybe has been looking for since Malcolm Kelly left town.

Garrett Wilson – 6-0, 180, 4.45

Four stars, Rivals top 150. The Austin resident dominated the recent Texas high school playoffs and is skyrocketing up the rankings. He’s listing OU as a contender – like every other top WR in Texas.

Dylan Wright – 6-4, 190, 4.45

Four stars, Rivals250. Can you be a sleeper as a top 300 player in the nation? That’s what happens with a position group as packed with talent as WR in Texas this year. OU has offered. He’s interested in the Sooners.

Tight End

Austin Stogner's pledge means OU is likely done, but the number two tight end in the 2019 class is interested in OU as well, and he’s more of an fullback-type player.

Keon Zipperer – 6-3, 225, 4.6

Four stars, Rivals100. OU and a host of other schools are vying for the Florida native. Dmitri Flowers getting some NFL attention would be nice for this chase.

Offensive Line

Maybe four spots? The days of floundering and scraping by in OL recruiting are completely over. Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh has brought in two great classes in back-to-back years, and all signs point towards him going for a third in a row in '19. Orlando Brown’s likely selection in the first round of the NFL draft is not going to hurt.

Kenyon Green – 6-5, 290, 5.2

Five stars. The Texan verbally committed to LSU, but recently opened things back up.

Tyler Johnson – 6-5, 285, 5.2

Four stars, Rivals10. Probably the number two offensive tackle in Texas behind Green. OU is very much involved.

E.J. Ndoma Ogar – 6-3, 305, 5.2

Four stars, Rivals top 150. Ogar just dominated a junior camp, winning best OL honors. OU is definitely in his top five.

Jack Buford – 6-4, 300, 5.2

Three stars. Teammate of '18 signee Ronnie Perkins out of St. Louis. Buford has been talking up OU big time on Twitter with Perkins. Expect OU to stay involved as long as the Sooners have OL spots available.

Kardell Thomas – 6-4, 320, 5.3

Four stars, Rivals top 50. Thomas is an LSU commit for now. Look for OU to get him on campus some time this spring.

Justin Osborne – 6-5, 260, 5.2

Three stars. A big athlete out of Texas who is somewhat reminiscent of Bobby Evans. Osborne has the frame to add weight while keeping his elite athleticism.
