Picks Trying Not to Suck: Week 7

A Trayveon Williams fumble out of Texas A&M's end zone was the only separating BH from a perfect game last week. Instead, he settled for an unblemished no-hitter that further widened his lead on The Skinny this season. At some point, Skin has to bounce back, right?

On to this week's picks.

BLATANT HOMERISM--Week 7
Last week: 4-0-1; Overall: 18-11-1

Iowa State at Texas (-13.5)

I previewed this game for Athlon. Bottom line: Look for the Longhorns to roll this week – and the bottom to drop out a week later.

The pick: 'Horns come strong.

Ole Miss (-7.5) at Arkansas

Arkansas spent last week get pounded on by Alabama. Ole Miss spent last week... doing something else. That sort of situation bodes well for the Rebels.

Ole Miss' tempo will further wear on the weary Razorbacks, who have struggled with no-huddleoffenses this year.

The pick: Road fav in a night game? No one said I treat you gentle.

Ohio State (-11) at Wisconsin

Another? Let's ride the lightning.

As well as Wisky's defense has played this year, this remains a thoroughly overrated team. I fail to see how the Badgers will move the ball on the Buckeyes.

Maybe Paul Chryst and his staff came up with a magnificent game plan during their off week, but it will take a hell of a performance by UW just to keep this within two scores.

The pick: Buckeyes, 24-3.

Virginia Tech at Syracuse (+19.5)

The ACC schedulers are serving up a nasty ass sandwich game to the Hokies. Like, mold on the baloney and the cheese is turning green: Traveling to Syracuse with North Carolina in the rearview mirror and Miami on deck.

I'm anticipating a pretty lethargic showing from Va. Tech, enabling the Orange to stay just within the number. Thankfully, I won't have to watch it.

The pick: 'Cuse loses by 14.

Alabama at Tennessee (+13)

Given the ringer that the Volunteers have run through these past few weeks, I admit that I don't feel great about this one. Injuries have wrecked UT's defense, and even though Josh Dobbs has played well this year, he's still the same errant thrower he has always been.

Still, judging by how the Crimson Tide have defended the pass this season, Dobbs and his receiving corps could put together a big game. After the way the Vols hung with 'Bama a year ago, though, I suspect they find a way to keep this game close.

The pick: Tide by not enough, if at all.

The Skinny--Week 7
Last week: 2-3; Overall: 12-18

Ohio State at Wisconsin (+11)
Iowa State at Texas (-13.5)
Tulsa at Houston (-21)
Northwestern at Michigan State (-5.5)
Georgia Southern (+11) at Georgia Tech
