Picks Trying Not to Suck: Week 7

The Skinny and BH came back to earth last week, to the shock of absolutely no one.

On to this week's picks...

BLATANT HOMERISM--Week 7
(Last week: 2-3; Overall: 19-11)

TCU at Iowa State (+20.5)

Are the Horned Frogs are running out of steam? They have yet to get a week off and are looking at their second consecutive long road trip.

TCU also doesn't play as sharp on the road, where the Horned Frogs will find temperatures forecast to be in the 40s this Saturday night.

The pick: I don't like the idea of betting on the Cyclones anymore than you do, so think of it as betting against TCU.

Penn State at Ohio State (-17)

The Nittany Lions' first true road game of the season comes at the Horseshoe? Yeesh.

The line here tells the story. For all the talk of OSU struggling in its title defense, the Buckeyes are that much better than a fairly nondescript Penn St. squad. Expect the OSU D to clobber Christian Hackenberg and Co. when PSU has the ball.

The pick: OSU, 24-3.

Auburn (-1.5) at Kentucky

I hate going against the home team in a Thursday night game. However, the Tigers have more talent and two weeks of Gus Malzahn scheming on their side.

The pick: Lay it.

Iowa (-2.5) at Northwestern

The Hawkeyes will enjoy the edge in the trenches against NU's run-heavy offense. Let's not overthink this.

The pick: Kirk Ferentz's team moves to a Midwestern sexy 7-0.

Vanderbilt at South Carolina (-2.5)

Yes, another favorite. Let's live dangerously.

This line fell 3.5 points with the news of Steve Spurrier's resignation. I respect the Head Ball Coach's football acumen as much as anybody, but that's too much. With interim coach Shawn Elliott auditioning for a permanent head job with the Gamecocks or another school, I'm looking for S. Carolina to play well against a Vandy squad that might have lost some momentum with last week's bye.

The pick: 'Cocks comfortably.

THE SKINNY--Week 7
(Last week: 2-3; Overall: 15-14-1)

Michigan State (+7.5) at Michigan
USC (+6.5) at Notre Dame
Missouri (+16) at Georgia
Iowa at Northwestern (+2.5)
Tulsa at East Carolina (-10.5)
