Mixon sitting for now

Oklahoma announced tonight that heralded recruit Joe Mixon won't be doing anything with the football team for now, which probably sounds more ominous than it actually is.
Since the altercation nearly a week ago between Mixon and a female OU student, there really haven't been any kind of official football actives that he would have to sit out. That changes Thursday morning when the Sooners start fall practice.
If you do want to infer something from the news, the fact that this is the first formal action taken with regard to Mixon suggests that his future rests heavily on the determination of the Cleveland County District Attorney. As such, it seems reasonable to assume that barring a felony charge, he'll remain part of the program. Given the severity of the allegations in this case, though, that's far from a sure thing.
Frankly, I don't think there's anything I can say at this point that would add value to the dialogue regarding Mixon's case. (As if I usually add value to anything when I start flapping my gums.) I don't really get my jollies from talking about actual crimes and punishment – those not of the NCAA variety, of course – in college football. As more information becomes public, I imagine that I'll have two cents to chip in.
