Joe Mixon facing serious assault allegations
A relatively incident-free offseason for Oklahoma soured in a hurry today with the news that super recruit Joe Mixon is under investigation in connection with an altercation in Norman early Friday morning.
The details of the alleged incident that are being reported in the local media paint a troubling picture for Mixon, and if felony charges do come down on the 18-year-old tailback from California, it seems unlikely that he'll ever play a down at OU. Yet, per Travis Haney of ESPN, it sounds as though the OU-Mixon pairing was in serious trouble from the start:
If Mixon is done as a Sooner for this season or longer, his removal would represent a hit to OU's stable of talented running backs. The all-purpose back has been touted as an early-impact candidate in the offense.
The bigger issue for Bob Stoops, however, could turn out to be how he reconciles whatever happens with Mixon versus his decision earlier this month to bring Dorial Green-Beckham into the program.
