Oklahoma's 2014 schedule finalized
See you in seven months...
According to SoonerSports.com, Oklahoma's 2014 schedule is officially official. The only two remaining questions have been answered:
- The Sooners travel to Iowa State on Nov. 1;
- OU hosts Bedlam Dec. 6, the final week of the season.
The announcement means the Sooners avoid a Thursday night game in Ames, which has been a briar patch for the Big 12's top teams in the last couple years. The OSU game could determine the conference title, so staging it in the first weekend of December makes sense. With three Big 12 games on the final day of the regular season, don't be surprised if the Sooners and Cowboys end up kicking off on a crisp night in Norman.
Other thoughts on Oklahoma's 2014 slate:
*I've never been one to buy into conspiracy theories about the Big 12 league office. If I did, however, I'd say the schedule makers did Bob Stoops a major solid this time around.
*The danger game this season could be the Sept. 20 trip to Morgantown. West Virginia has played OU tough the last two seasons, and the game is early enough in the year that Mountaineer fans should show up in full force. Factor in that the Sooners will be coming off a non-conference game with Tennessee – stranger things have happened, ya know.
*The other potential trap game: at Texas Tech on Nov. 15. Lubbock is nuts, especially if it's a night game, and the Red Raiders could be one of the conference's surprise teams this year.
*Playing at Texas Christian the week before the Red River Shootout doesn't sound too sweet. The preceding bye week should ease some concerns there, however.
*Let's be real for a second. If OU doesn't make a legitimate run at the first four-team playoff, the Sooners won't have the schedule to blame.
