Linking Up: Bob Stoops and Florida stuff

Bob Stoops doesn't look to be going anywhere, but that won't stop people from talking about him and Florida. (Image courtesy: dallasnews.com)

Couple things worth checking out:

*Our good buddies Rick Muscles and BanditRef invited me on their show Gettin' Chippy earlier this week to talk about the Florida opening and the persistent speculation about Bob Stoops. We also covered the current positioning for the inaugural College Football Playoff. Give it a listen.

*On a related note, I wrote for The Student Section on why Stoops would be a grand slam hire for the Gators. I don't see it happening, of course, but he'd kill it in Gainesville.

*I absolutely love this time of the year with the combination of early college hoops and the college football season winding down. Coach Cal's squad at Kentucky is something to behold.

*How dare you, John Schnatter?

*I binged on Serial a few weeks back while traveling and was transfixed. It felt like a new twist on a crime procedural in the vein of David Simon's work.

I've cooled on it a bit now that I've caught up. This Slate piece by Katy Waldman nails how the series has evolved from investigative journalism to something more resembling a character study. I wouldn't say it has been for the better from a storytelling standpoint, but the unique format represents a refreshing contribution to the podcast genre.

*This New Yorker profile of Chris Rock definitely warrants a read.

*Bomani Jones offered up a poignant, safe-for-work meditation in Playboy on the Bill Cosby scandal and how it reflects our collective apathy towards sexual assault more so than celebrity.

The Onion, not surprisingly, offered up something... else.
