Oklahoma 45, Alabama 31: Believe it
Yep. (Photo courtesy: nola.com)
“Nobody believed in us” has become such a tired cliche in the sports world that it makes me want to throw my remote to through the TV when I hear some “disrespected” athlete parroting it on SportsCenter.
This time, it was okay, though. You really had no reason to believe that this Oklahoma team could pull off a magical upset against Alabama. (I know that I didn’t buy it.)
Yet, in the wee hours of the night, there were the Sooners hoisting a Sugar Bowl trophy in the middle of the Superdome.
The most miraculous part of all was that OU didn’t need a miracle to beat the Crimson Tide. The Tide didn’t come out flat. ‘Bama didn’t choke. Lucky breaks? Never really a factor.
No, the Sooners notched a momentum-shifting win for their program Thursday night by beating the baddest dudes on college football’s block straight up on their turf.
What does this mean for recruiting? Has OU found its quarterback of the future? Should Bob Stoops tell the #haterz to stick it?
All in due time. For now, what matters is that this really happened.
