Mack fires back, we think
"Hey, Bill Powers, hook this!"
With Texas' search for a new head coach now in full swing, Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde appears to have ghostwritten Mack Brown's twist on the events surrounding the resignation of the Longhorns' outgoing coach.
Citing a shadowy "source with intimate knowledge of the situation," Forde's article paints Brown as the victim of a double-cross by lily-livered school president Bill Powers. It features a cameo from Texas' new athletic director, Steve Patterson, playing the role of hapless hatchet man.
For the record, between Forde and Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com, you now have two affiliated reporters with differing accounts of how all of this went down. The latter portrayed Mack as a vindictive egomaniac. This latest retelling, on the other hand, depicts Texas' administrators as bumbling backstabbers.
Quite the parting gift as Mack heads out to pasture.
What will be interesting to watch from here on out is how heavily this soap opera weighs on the search for the next coach. UT still has the resources to beat any bid for a candidate's services, but how many of the 'Horns' targets might get scared off by this sideshow?
