An Exercise in Futility

If you need any further proof of how worthless the major polls are in the early part of the season, consider that every single team in the preseason top 10 of the AP and coaches polls already have one loss this season.

Anyway, Homerism battled the same issues in putting together this week's power poll that the major poll voters faced. Namely, should Texas or Alabama be ranked number one?
For some guidance, I turned to Las Vegas Sports Consultants' Oddsmakers Poll to help gauge "quality" wins. While the Vegas rankings may not reflect the quality of a team's resume, the poll does a good job of measuring teams' relative strengths.
Texas' best win is on a neutral field against OU, which Vegas has ranked fourth. On the other hand, the bookies have been skeptical about Georgia since day one, currently ranking the Bulldogs seventh. That's enough for me to put the Longhorns on top.

Blatant Homerism Power Poll Week Seven
1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma State
4. Penn State
5. Texas Tech
6. BYU
7. Utah
8. Boise St.
10. Oklahoma
