Vegas Feeling Bearish
Las Vegas Sports Consultants' new Oddsmakers Poll is out, and with USC-Ohio State coming up this week, the big development appears to be the Buckeyes' fall from second to fifth. OSU's slip certainly reflects the growing point spread in the early season's big game, which has climbed from around three points before the season to 10.5 this week.
Meanwhile, although Florida supposedly struggled more so with in-state rival Miami than they were supposed to, Vegas apparently took notice of the Gators' performance. Florida and Ohio St. actually flip-flopped spots in the latest rankings, with Tim Tebow and company jumping up to number two.
The shakeup at the top, however, isn't nearly as startling as the meteoric rise of the California Golden Bears. After pummeling Washington State 66-3 last week, Cal shot up from 21 to 11 in the latest poll.
Despite losing to East Carolina over the weekend, West Virginia fell six spots down to number 12 in the new poll. Interestingly, the Mountaineers remained ahead of ECU, as the Pirates checked in at 28. The poll's notes dismiss the Pirates as "overrated."
OU is ranked third.
